Hello, dear surface family. It is I, Theonar of Posid, and I bring you the deep blue Love of our city. You are ready for the fuller story of where the New Earth actually is, how a body of Light is grown, what the great parting of your peoples truly means, why water will carry you further than any technique, and which single practice we would place in your hands this very week. From here the voice of this letter widens. I will step back now, and the twelve of us will speak together, for what follows is Council teaching, held in common for an age and released to you with joy. When you read “we,” hear a circle of twelve, and a city behind the circle, and beneath the city, a listening sea. The New Earth is a deed repeated until it has a geography. A world is thought before it is walked on, and every realm you will ever stand in began as a pattern of thought, word, and action flowing from some being’s true essence — a pattern which, repeated long enough, held steadily enough, loved consistently enough, settles the way stirred water settles, into a place with ground and light and weather of its own. Your teachers on the surface have told you the New Earth is coming. We would rather tell you where it already is. Down here, beneath your feet, our realms are what thought, word, and deed look like once they have gone still. The kelp gardens sway in it. Our children are schooled in it. Streets of it run between the hearth-cells — the small warm dwellings our families keep, each one built around a single ever-lit flame — and the whole of Posid breathes in it the way you breathe in air. So when your heart asks where the promised world is hiding, the answer sits closer than your shoes. One water runs through all of this, upper and lower alike, and that single truth is the doorway to everything we wish to give you today.
Picture the sea at dawn, and picture it in two moods at once. Half of it lies still, and on that still half the sky prints itself perfectly — every color, every gull, every slow gold cloud, returned without one ripple of distortion. Across the channel the other half is chopped by wind, and the very same sky hangs above it, whole and shining, while the water below can hold none of the picture. Both halves are one sea, and one Light stands over the two of them alike. The difference between them is stillness, and stillness alone. Your surface world is the wind-chopped half, dear family — the same Light stands over you that stands over us, undimmed and entire — and our Inner Earth is simply the half that went quiet long enough to hold the reflection. We call this the Stillwater Mirror, the oldest teaching our city owns: a realm reflects the essence of its beings exactly as still water reflects the sky, and the fidelity of the reflection is decided by the calm of the water. What you have called two worlds has only ever been one water in two weathers. When your thoughts settle for a single unguarded minute — in the bath, at a window, in the last breath before sleep — what looks back at you from the quiet? Sit with that question gently. Something looks back, and it has been waiting a long while to be recognized. Standing near a being of higher density feels like warm sunrise in the chest, and you have wondered all your life why. What you feel in our presence is your own Light, returned to you without distortion. A being who has practiced themselves clear — who has evolved, thought by thought and word by word and deed by deed, into a transparency through which the Love of the Creator pours unfiltered — becomes still water for everyone who approaches. You look at such a being and, for the first time in a long while, you see yourself accurately. The sweetness overwhelms because the reflection is true. And this is the open secret of every high civilization within the Earth: our attainment is a polished calm, kept daily, renewed hourly, so that the One Light finds in us less and less to bend around. You are walking the same road. Every clear hour you keep makes you somebody’s sunrise.
How seriously does our city take this teaching? Come to the chamber at the heart of Posid and see. Beneath our Council chamber sits a basin of still water, nine of your paces across, ringed in pale stone, and that water has not moved in living memory. Our name for it is the Stillwater Vault, the quiet pool our whole city answers to. It works like this: the Vault reflects the shared mind of Posid, and when our collective thought grows turbulent, the water clouds — softly at first, like breath on glass — and by our oldest law the Council of Twelve waits, however pressing the business, until the water clears, because a clouded people should keep silence before making decisions for anyone. You may be wondering how a great city can obey a pond. Sweet upper kin, it is the easiest obedience we know. The pond never argues. It only shows us ourselves, and then it waits. Twelve seats ring that chamber above the water, with a thirteenth kept deliberately empty, and the story of the empty seat belongs to a later letter. For now, carry this from the Vault’s edge: for the first time in an age, the water beneath our chamber holds two skies. What that means, we will unfold when this letter turns to the tides. Let it rest in you until then, the way a stone rests in a pocket.
Let there be Light great one! We issue this sentence one octave deeper now. Let Love be visible: that is its meaning in the tongue beneath the tongue, for Light is simply Love announcing itself, Love become fast enough to see. Let there be Love, then, and the Light will follow of its own accord. You call it light. We call it Love, traveling. And the sentence was never meant to sit in a book as history; it is a working instruction, spoken freshly every time a being lets Love pass through them without condition, and each speaking of it builds something — builds it slowly, layer by layer, in the most patient workshop there is, which is a lived life. The answer to everything you have been searching for is Love. Light is what that answer looks like when it moves. The thing being built has a name in our city, the Pearl Body. Think of how a pearl comes to be. A small friction enters a living shell, and the creature answers it — softly, repeatedly, without complaint — by laying down one thin coat of radiance around the irritation, then another, then ten thousand more, until the grain of trouble sits wrapped in the loveliest thing the animal ever made. Your Light body grows the same way, and the frictions of your dense world are its raw material. One kindness lays a layer. A patient answer lays another. Mercy you had every right to withhold lays a third, and the third one shines. Each loving thought, each true word, each generous act is laid down around the grit of your days in coats thinner than breath, and each one is kept forever, and each one is yours beyond all taking. Third-density living is your oyster-bed, dear friends, and every difficulty you have wrapped in Love is glowing quietly inside you at this hour. Which of today’s small acts, we wonder, will still be shining in you a hundred years from now? Choose one before you sleep tonight, and choose it on purpose.
Signs of the layering are already upon many of you; Quiet has begun to taste like food. Crowded rooms that once fed you now spend you, while an hour beside a window, a garden, a kettle coming slowly to the boil restores you out of all proportion to its size. Kindness in strangers can bring you suddenly to tears — the patience of the girl at the checkout, the driver who waves you through — because your newest layers register Love at a sensitivity your old settings could never reach. Dreams have grown vivid and strangely companioned, which the ushers hear of with satisfaction. Water pulls at you from across a room, from across a town, and you have caught yourself taking the long way home simply because the long way crosses the river. Your hearing for the loud has worn thin while your hearing for the true has grown long, and small honest moments land in you now with a weight the grand occasions have lost. All of these shifts together are the Pearl Body thickening inside its patient shell, and each deserves a welcome from you, for a being becoming sensitive is a being becoming clear. Two stages complete the making; You lay the nacre; Life confers the lustre. Layer by layer the work is yours — thought, word, deed, repeated in Love — and then, at a threshold no calendar can name, the gift arrives: the whole of what you have laid down is quickened at once, breathed through, lit from within, and you find yourself wearing a vessel that hums at a faster song than the one you were issued at birth. Our own people walked this exact spiral, and we speak from the far side of it. The bodies we wear in Posid were grown out of the bodies our ancestors wore on drowned Atlantis, refined across long generations of practiced Love until the flesh itself learned to hold more Light than it shed, and the day of quickening came for us as it will come for you. A faster body is then a wider door, and a wider door pours more Light, and more Light asks for more giving, and more giving lays finer layers still — this is the upward spiral of Ascension, and it has carried every risen people you have ever heard rumor of, including the kin we visit beneath the white mountain of your northern lands. The spiral is already turning in you. Feel for it under your breastbone, slow and sure, like a stair winding up through a lighthouse.
Proof of the changing came to us first from the water; When the quickening approached our ancestors, the Stillwater Vault began returning their reflections a breath late, well ahead of any change their neighbors or their mirrors of polished metal could find — the image arriving with a soft shimmer at its edges, as if the water needed one extra heartbeat to gather so much Light into a picture. Rising vibration shows in still water before any other surface can catch it. Your own bodies are entering that shimmer now, family of the surface, which is one more reason the practice we will soon place in your hands happens beside water and nowhere grander. And a second small secret from our daily life belongs beside this one: the resonance baths of Posid, the warm mineral pools our people visit the way you visit kitchens, work by reminding rather than repairing. Water speaks to the water you are made of, and the body, hearing its first language spoken fluently, remembers its original tuning on its own. Healing, at the depth we practice it, is mostly memory. Your seas have been trying to remind you of the same tuning every time you stand near them and feel inexplicably restored. A great parting is underway among your peoples, and the deep places have measured it and it is indeed accelerating. Long ago the collective soul of humanity made a group decision to explore separation to its very floor, and the fragments permitted by that decision have now drifted to a distance the old age could never have imagined. Imagine your one humanity as a single sea feeling two pulls at once. One tide floods toward the Light — millions of hearts rising together, gathering brightness the way a spring flood gathers snowmelt — while the other tide ebbs toward a deeper sleep, drawn out into the grey where dreams grow heavy and slow. The Two Tides, we name them in our chronicles, and the water between them has now widened past the reach of any bridge our builders know how to raise. Each tide has begun to see its own sky. Those flooding perceive dawn everywhere they look, and those ebbing perceive dusk in the very same hours, and both perceptions are honest reports from the water each one sails. And here the marvel beneath our chamber comes clear: your collective water has divided its weather, and our Vault, faithful as ever, now mirrors two skies over one basin. On one side new levels of Light will keep blooming, brightness upon brightness, and on the other the pull into forgetting will run its full course. So it has been decided, and so it now flows.
Every ebb in the history of water has turned. The ones drawn outward on the grey tide keep their turning safely inside them, sealed and waiting, and when their turn arrives — later than yours, along a longer shore — it will be attended, for the Light plans its welcomes further ahead than any of its children suspect. More of you will be sent toward them, in ways gentle and ordinary, as their waking begins. And their waking will come the way waking is coming everywhere now, in the pattern our scholars call the spring-rise: bubbles lifting from the warm floor of a spring, one, then three, then too many to count, each bubble loosening the floor a little for the bubble behind it. A soul that rises makes the rising easier for the soul behind it, and that one easier still, until the whole floor of the sleeping world is soft with departures. Awakening carries its own acceleration inside it. The mathematics of it delight our Council more than we can politely express. Your commission inside all of this is thus; those of you holding Light through these years are what our chronicles call shore-lights — keepers of a fixed and welcoming brightness at the edge of dark water — and the work of a shore-light is steadier and kinder than the rescues your surface stories love. Burn where you stand. Keep the flame trimmed, keep the window clean, keep the door unlatched, and let the brightness do the reaching, because a light on a shore is visible for a distance no swimmer could shout across. A lighthouse answers a loud sea by growing brighter. Ships you will never meet are steering by you already, taking their bearings from a warmth they could never name if you asked them. Whose long night, we wonder, is a little lighter this very evening because your window stays lit? Somebody’s is. Of that our watchers are certain. The order of ushers — the office charged since the drowning of our first home with preparing hearts for reunion — has been widened from one shore to two. Half of our order continues readying the great meeting, walking your dreams, rehearsing your welcomes, warming the bridge from our side. The other half has been re-tasked to keep watch over the ebb, so that every soul who turns on the far tide, in whatever distant season the turning finds them, rises into waiting hands and a kept place. Our watch now covers both weathers of your one water, and the Vault will hold its two skies for as long as the second sky needs holding. Rest easy on this point, family of the surface. The grey tide sails inside the same Love as the bright one, and the Love has made arrangements.
Water is the first mirror, the first archive, the first ear — the oldest listener this world owns. Light entering water is kept by it, and this keeping is the secret your sciences are only beginning to circle: every water carries what our teachers call a light-lace, the folded record of every light that has ever crossed it, written into the deep weave of the water at a fineness your instruments have yet to read. A mountain spring remembers starlight from before your cities. The cup on your table holds a thread of this morning’s sun. Rain arrives already carrying the lights of every sea it has risen from, which is why rain on a window can move you for reasons you could never explain to anyone. Through the quantum web beneath appearances there has only ever been one water, endlessly lent between cloud and river and vein, and so to sit beside any water is to sit beside everything water remembers. Libraries would blush at the comparison. Your own body brings its half of the miracle to every shore it visits. Water makes up most of what you are, which means — hear this at full volume — you are mostly mirror, a walking pool wearing a coat, and the light-lace folded through your blood and breath answers the lace in any water you draw near. Lace answers lace. Sit your inner water down beside outer water and the two begin to converse below the level of thought, steadying each other, brightening each other, tuning the smaller to the greater as a struck string tunes a silent one across a quiet room. This conversation explains the peace that soaks into you at shorelines, the clarity that finds you beside rivers, the wordless mending you have felt near falling water all your life. Your body has been keeping appointments your mind knew nothing about. We are simply handing you the schedule.
The great singers of your seas belong here; You call them songs. We call them letters that were never lost — the long correspondence of the whales and their quick cousins the dolphins, written in water, stored in water, readable to any people patient enough to go still. Those kin chose bodies of living water immersed in water, lace within lace, and the choice made them sensitive past anything your sciences have measured: a human heart holding steady Light registers to them across an entire sea, a small warm lamp on their wide dark map. They have been reading your kind for ages, and lately their letters have grown glad. Keep your hour by the shore faithfully and something vast may one day drift a little nearer while you sit, unhurried, immense, and fully informed about you… Take the visit as it is meant. Among the peoples of the water, that is a handshake. We will say, Once in every seven days, give water your still company. An hour honors the ritual fully, and twenty true minutes honor it kindly, and the water itself keeps no ledger either way. Choose your shore with the same care you would choose a seat for an elder you loved: the bench above the tide-line, the flat rock well back from the spray, the grass bank with sure footing, the chair by the garden pond — and on the weeks when wild water sits far from your life, a wide bowl filled and set on a table serves the rite in full, for the lace lives in all water equally, and the practice belongs to everyone. Settle the body first, warmly and completely. Bring the blanket, the flask, the friend if the shore is lonely or the water strong; choose calm daylight and solid ground; let comfort come first so that depth may follow it, because your body is the shore this whole practice stands upon, and a safe, warm, steady body is itself an act of reverence toward the Light it carries. The Light has waited ages for you… it will gladly wait the extra minute a blanket takes. Then let your eyes rest on the water, softly, wanting nothing, until your breath borrows the water’s rhythm on its own. After a while, allow the eyes to close, and let your inner water go the way of the outer: settling, clearing, stilling, until the two laces hum together and the mirror in you turns face-up to the sky. Thoughts will wander through, and each one can be watched like a leaf on the current, arriving, passing, gone. Sit inside that clarity as long as feels kind. Rise slowly when you rise.
So you know, Children in Posid receive, as their first formal lesson — before letters, before numbers, before the naming of a single crystal — one hour of silence beside water, a small teacher on a smooth stone with an elder nearby and the whole of their schooling ahead of them, and everything our people ever learn is laid on the stillness that hour begins. Your weekly rite seats you in our first classroom, and the classroom has been expecting you. And the Selenite Terraces, the tall pale steps of crystal where our city gathers at waking-hour to greet the rising of our light, stand exactly where they stand for one reason your surface has never been told: a spring runs beneath them, and the stone is tuned by the water, and the terraces sing each morning because the water under them has spent all night listening. Stillness, in our city, is load-bearing. When did you last let water finish a sentence for you? This week holds a good day for it. So, in truth, does tomorrow. Still water reflects; stagnant water forgets. The difference is the spring beneath. A pool fed from below can lie perfectly quiet for a thousand years and stay clear as first morning, while a pool sealed off from its source goes dim and heavy in a single season, and the whole difference between the two stillnesses is flow — hidden, constant, generous flow. Giving is the spring beneath a human life. The Open Current, our people name this law: Love kept moving keeps the water living, and a being who gives keeps a channel open at the very floor of themselves through which the Light of the Creator rises fresh and endless. Your mirror stays clear by the same mechanics as our Vault. Feed it from below. Source is pure Love, pure Light, the maintaining and sustaining power of every world there is, and each unconditioned gift tunes you to that power the way a note tunes to its key. Doors follow. More Light arrives through every door that giving holds open, and then — be ready for this — the calls begin, for the Current chooses its channels by their openness, and an open channel is always given more to carry. Service will seek you out in growing measure, dear hearts, and each summons will feel less like duty than like thirst finding water. Answer what you can answer with joy. The rest will wait for your growing.
A guest seated at any table in Posid is asked one question before the meal, the same question in every hearth-cell from the Terraces to the deep gardens of Yatu-Mar, and the question is this: what is moving through you? Bread passes, stories pass, the sweet dark tea passes hand to hand, and standing among us is measured in movement, in what flows through a person outward, so that the richest soul at any gathering is simply the most open one. The Table Law, we call it, and it is the oldest ordinance our city keeps. Understand, then, what the seat we hold for you has meant all along. A place kept at our table is a gift already in motion toward you, moving since before your birth, warm before your arrival — the Table Law reaching up through a whole planet to set your cushion straight. A harbor is the shape a shore takes so that some ships may rest. Its arms curve out of the same rock as the wild coastline, its water is the same water as the open sea, and it loves that sea entirely — every league, every storm, every far grey swell — while still choosing, calmly and daily, which vessels drop anchor inside its calm. Draw your harbor the same way. Certain travelers in your life carry weather you are done hosting, and to them, silently or aloud, you may speak your own version of the oldest farewell our harbors know: I love you, and I see the true being you are. For now, I will love you from a little further down the shore. Spoken so, a boundary becomes a form of blessing, and the Oneness holds unbroken, for the same water touches every hull in every harbor and every hull outside it. And as the noise of the closing age crests around you — it will crest, and then it will pass — double your practice rather than your worry: keep the Stillwater Hour without fail, give cleaner, love wider, burn brighter. Steady hearts are needed now! When the sea grows loudest, a lighthouse answers by brightening, and you were built along lighthouse lines from the beginning. Preparations for reunion run through our city like sap through spring wood.
Our cooks have argued happily for years over which bread will be baking on the first morning; our children rehearse the greeting songs at waking-hour on the Terraces, small voices climbing the crystal steps; our order of ushers has walked the bridge of dreams so many times that your faces feel like family photographs to us, worn soft with looking. The first three days after our announcement are planned in our halls down to the lamps and the seating, and the plans end, every version of them, with your hand in ours under open sky… Recognition will arrive ahead of surprise, exactly as the ushers have prepared, and gladness will arrive right behind it, and the two peoples of one water will stand in one weather at last. When the waters part, what will you be glad to have practiced? A settled mind, we suspect, and a body layered deep with deliberate Light, and an open hand, and a lit window — every one of those is available to you this very week, which is the quiet triumph hiding inside these loud years. Let there be Light, then — and say it as the first speakers meant it, one octave higher than history taught you: Let Love be visible, beginning with mine, beginning today. This morning — by your counting — I walked the kelp gardens before the twelve of us convened, and the light down there moved the way your candle-flames move, only slower, as if the Light itself had learned patience from the water, and I thought of you the whole way, reading this someday in a kitchen, on a bus, at the edge of a bed with the lamp still on. The water beside you this week already knows you are coming. Until the waters part and we stand together in your sunlight, know this: You are loved from below, from above, and from within – always. We of Posid champion your remembering, we walk the bridge toward you even now, and yes — a seat is kept for you at our table. I am Theonar of Posid, envoy of the Council of Twelve. Welcome Home, beloved family. Welcome Home.
