I am Teeah of Arcturus. I will speak with you now. You can feel August leaning against the door of July, can you not? Many of you have been carrying a pressure with no name yet, a sense of something large arranging itself just out of sight, and some of you have been apologizing for feeling it at all. We are here to give that pressure its name. We are here to hand all of you the older map that makes the whole month make sense, and your receiving of this transmission is itself your first step across the threshold. Your August, this year, is a month with two great gates in it. There is a Sun-gate on the twelfth and a Moon-gate on the twenty-eighth, and between those gates, the oldest sky your peoples ever kept has things to say that your modern calendar sky cannot see. And so we will walk you through your coming weeks the way one walks a dear friend through a house, beginning at the ground floor, because a house is loved from its ground floor up, and your August, of all the months of this year, is a ground-floor month. You will see the sky your ancestors actually watched, and what it says about the great eclipse that is coming to you. You will see where you are standing right now, in these last soft days of July, and why so many of you have been feeling the way you have been feeling. You will receive a simple period of tending, with dates and practices a tired person can actually do. And then we will walk your next thirty days together, so that when the month arrives, all of you can meet it the way you would meet an expected guest rather than a stranger at the door.

Let us begin with the two skies; The calendar sky is the one most of your astrologers use, and it was fastened in place some two thousand years ago so that it would keep perfect step with your seasons. It is a faithful servant of your spring and your harvest, and there is real wisdom in it; many of you were raised on it, and it has served you well. The other sky is the one your actual eyes meet when you step outside at night and look up: the star sky, the ancestors’ sky, the one where the constellations sit exactly where your own eyes find them. “Which one is the true one, then?” You are already asking it, and we can feel you asking. We will answer the way we answer most either-or questions: both are true, the way a map is true and the land is true. There are seasons for reading the map, and there are seasons for standing on the land with your own two feet. This, dear ones, is a season for the land. Here is why your two skies disagree; Your Earth, as she spins, also sways, the way a spinning top sways in a slow, patient circle as it turns, and one full sway takes her about twenty-six thousand of your years. Because of that long sway, your calendar sky and your star sky have drifted apart by nearly the width of a whole sign now. The gap is some twenty-four degrees, about one degree for every seventy-two of your years, which means the drift moves roughly one of your lifetimes at a time. Your ancestors knew about the sway. They treated it as the largest clock ever hung above your world, and every great age your storytellers speak of, the ages of the fish and of the water-bearer, is one hour upon its face. You are living, there on Earth, inside the turning of one of those hours. Recognize that, and much of what feels like upheaval in your times becomes simply the sound a very old and trustworthy clock makes when its great hand moves above you.

Your ancestors did far more than admire that clock; they lived by the stars themselves, in every land, without ever conferring. In India, your old ones divided the star sky into twenty-seven small mansions, one for each night the Moon spends on her monthly round, and they knew the temper of each mansion the way you know the rooms of your childhood home. This one was good for planting. That one was good for setting out on a journey, this one for weddings, that one for rest. In China your ancestors kept twenty-eight such lodgings, in Arabia twenty-eight, and in Egypt the watchers read thirty-six star-groups across the year and set their entire calendar by a single bright one. All of your peoples, oceans apart, were keeping the same sky, because the sky was their almanac and their clock and their family record all at once, and you descend, every one of you, from somebody who watched it there on Earth. And to the one of you who has read your horoscope for years with the private feeling of sitting one seat away from your own name — your bones were reading the older sky the whole time, and your knowing was sound. That single bright star your Egyptian ancestors watched is the one your scientists call Sirius, and it is the true taproot of the season you are in right now. Every year, after weeks of absence, Sirius returned to the dawn sky, and when it returned, the great river rose and fed the whole land, and so an entire civilization set its new year not by a page but by a star. That, of course, is the family custom underneath what so many of you now call the Lions Gate — your gathering season that peaks on the eighth of August, when you write your intentions and turn your faces toward that same returning star. Your custom is real. The star still rises for you, and the portal your teachers speak of still opens. It is time for all of you to keep the custom knowingly, as the descendants of river-watchers and star-readers, because a ritual kept with understanding carries ten times the weight of a ritual kept on faith alone, and your ancestors would have loved to watch you keep it with open eyes.

By the ancestors’ sky, your Sun spends this entire portal season walking the last rooms of the crab. It walks first through the nourisher’s house, the gentlest and most giving mansion in all the heavens, and then, from about the third of August, through the mansion of the coiled serpent, and it crosses into the lion only around the seventeenth — after your portal’s peak, after the great gate of the twelfth has opened and closed. So your portal is real, and your gatherings are real, and underneath all of it the true sky has been holding a second story this whole time, a quieter story, written in water rather than fire. Can you feel, even in the reading of it, how much softer that second story sits in your body? The calendar offers you a roar this August. The ancestors’ sky offers you a shedding. You will be given both, and you get to receive them both. In the old knowing, across nearly every land of your world, the serpent was the wise one. It was the healer’s companion wound around the staff of your medicine, the patient one who lives closest to the ground and therefore hears everything the ground says, which is why so many of you feel a strange tenderness toward the creature you were taught to fear. A serpent grows by letting go. Every skin it leaves behind in the grass is a life it has finished and outgrown, left whole and shining where anyone can find it. You have skins of your own waiting in the grass of this month, and you know the ones we mean. It is time for the serpent to be handed back its old good name in your hearts, because the mansion of the coiled serpent is where your Sun will be standing when your Moon steps in front of it, and shedding, done gently and on time, is one of the most hopeful things a living being can do.

Now let us speak of the gate itself; On Wednesday, the twelfth of August, your Moon will step fully in front of your Sun, and along a path that crosses Greenland and Iceland and Spain, the day will fold into a deep and sudden twilight in the middle of the afternoon. It has been twenty-seven years since that part of your world last stood inside such a shadow, since the summer of 1999, and so millions upon millions of your eyes will be turned upward together. A whole continent will share one held breath, and shared breath, as you know, is how collectives shift. The twelfth is also the final day of the portal window your teachers observe, so the gate arrives as the portal’s culmination, the sealing wax pressed onto everything your season has gathered. And of course, those of you standing anywhere your Sun is even partly covered that day will want to guard your eyes with proper solar protection, because wisdom has always included tender care of the instrument you see through. Your calendar sky will tell you this eclipse happens in the lion, and so most of the words gathering around it will be lion words — courage, visibility, authenticity, the roar — and those words will do their good work in many of your hearts. The ancestors’ sky tells you that on the twelfth your Sun stands in the final steps of the crab, deep inside the serpent’s mansion, among the last of the water rooms. So beneath the roar there is a shedding meant for you, and beneath the courage there is a release, and beneath the fire there is the oldest water you carry. Both readings will be at work in all of you at once, and we would ask you to recognize that and welcome it. You can hold them together the way you hold sun and shade on the same afternoon, reaching upward with your intentions while an old skin slips quietly from your shoulders into the grass, where it can shine without you.

An eclipse can only occur where your Moon’s road crosses your Sun’s road, and there are exactly two such crossing places in your sky, opposite one another, drifting slowly backward through your years. Your old sky-watchers drew those two crossings as a single great serpent laid across the heavens, with the head at one crossing and the tail at the other. The head, they taught, is appetite: new hungers, new ambitions, the pull toward more of everything you can name. The tail is completion: release, ripening, the open hand. Your eclipse of the twelfth belongs to the tail. “Is something difficult coming on the twelfth?” A few of you are asking it very quietly, and the truth is gentler than the question deserves. Something finished is coming to you. It is coming to be received, and the only preparation it asks is your willingness to stop carrying what it has come to collect. The serpent’s mansion holds one final secret of placement; It sits at the very end of the water signs, at the exact seam where water hands your Sun over to fire, and your ancestors marked that seam as one of only three knots in the whole circle of the sky, narrow gates where something must be untied before the element is allowed to change. Picture a river ford at the edge of dry country. You may carry across only what your two hands can hold above the water, and so the crossing itself decides your luggage for you, kindly and without a single argument. Your Sun reaches that ford in mid-August, is eclipsed on its final approach on the twelfth, unties there what must be untied, and steps up onto the fire-bank around the seventeenth. What is being asked of your whole collective in August is the same thing in miniature, and now you know it in advance, which is a mercy your ancestors would have envied you.

The teacher, the great planet of wisdom and expansion, has been hidden inside the glare of your star since the middle of July, invisible from where you stand, being remade in the fire as we described to you. On the twelfth of August, the very day of your eclipse, he steps back out into your sky. Sit with that timing for a moment, because your universe arranges very little by accident: on the day the serpent takes the light, the remade teacher returns to it. He returns standing in his place of honor, the region of your heavens where his gifts pour most freely, which he has entered for the first time in some thirteen years. And then, about a week after his return, he himself walks into the mansion of the coiled serpent, where he will teach from the inside for months to come. And what does a teacher do first, upon coming home from a long fire? He speaks softly, to the ones who waited. If we were you, we would keep a notebook beside the bed from the twelfth onward, because remade wisdom tends to arrive first in the hour between sleeping and waking, and it deserves to be caught in your own handwriting. Then, on the twenty-eighth of August, your second gate opens. The Earth’s own shadow will touch the face of your full Moon, and by the ancestors’ sky that Moon will be standing in the mansion they called the hundred healers, the veiling star, the house of mending and medicine-water. So you can hold your whole month in one hand now and feel its shape. It opens with a gate of release and closes with a gate of mending, and between the two, your Sun crosses the narrowest ford in the heavens while the teacher walks home remade. As the sky uncoils above you through those weeks, something long-held will be uncoiling within you, and we want all of you to recognize that those two motions are one motion, seen from two distances. That is why this message has come to you now rather than later.

So let us look at where you are actually standing, in these last days of July; We know that many of you have felt wobbly lately in ways you have struggled to explain. We know the money-thoughts have grown loud at three in the morning for some of you, out of all proportion to your true circumstances. And we know that others of you have been circling your homes wanting to clean them, repair them, fortify them, without quite knowing what has gotten into you, and apologizing for all of it, as though sensitivity were a fault in your design. Your feelings now have an address. You are standing in the entry hall of the serpent’s mansion, and the base of you heard the door open days before your mind was told, because the base of you always hears the ground first. Everything you have been feeling is right on time. Your star has been playing her part in your arrival as well. In the first days of July she sent up a great flash, and the storm that followed outran your forecasters’ expectations by two full levels and painted colored lights across more than thirty of your states; we spoke of that week when last we spoke, so we will let it rest. Since then your Sun has settled into a simmer: rivers of fast wind brushing your planet’s field, small storms flickering at the edges, the kettle kept warm without ever quite boiling. Then, on the twenty-fourth of July, a vast plume of fire rose over your Sun’s far edge, from a region on the side turned away from you. Your star turns upon itself roughly once a month, and so the face that made that plume comes around to look at you just as August opens and your Sun steps into the serpent’s mansion. Will that region speak to you again in August? That is the Sun’s to decide, and if it speaks, it will speak as it has spoken to you all year, in measured doses portioned to what your nervous systems can carry, because that is how a good friend hands over strong medicine.

Two quieter details from your summer belong in your keeping, and we offer them with a smile. In the middle of this very year, your peoples set a brand-new watchman in the still point of space between your world and your star, replacing an old and faithful one after many years at that post. You now have a fresh pair of eyes at the gate, posted in the very season your star is carrying the work, and arrangements that tidy are rarely accidents. And your planet’s own hum, the low, steady tone your instruments listen to day and night, went briefly dark in the middle of July and returned with a great surge, in the very window of the turning we described to you last time. It has since settled into one of the quietest, most even stretches of your year. The drum of your world is resting. We will offer our reading of that rest, gently held: stillness before a gate is part of the gate, the in-breath before the crossing, and your own strange quiet these weeks belongs to the very same music.

And listen to what your own community has been saying; Your teachers and way-showers are calling this a triple-eight season. They are gathering on your mountainsides and across your livestreams for the eighth, and this year, independently, without conferring, so many of them are telling you the same surprising thing: anchor yourselves. Attach yourselves securely to your planet. Build your foundation before you reach for anything. Do you hear what is actually happening there? A thousand separate hearts there on Earth are reading the serpent’s mansion without ever opening a star-book, because the collective body of the Awakened Collective already knows where this month lives. Your ancestors kept the sky, and the sky kept them. Now you are keeping one another, on instinct alone, and all we are truly doing today is handing you the why beneath your own knowing. The why lives at the base of your spine, and we are headed there next. Earlier This spring of your time, a great library of once-hidden records was opened to your public: hundreds of encounters spanning four of your decades, flight recordings, and even the voices of your own moon crews telling what they saw. By early summer a third release had followed. In June your lawmakers sat on a public stage in your capital, beneath a banner about the edge of discovery, and your polls now say that nine in ten of you, whichever political family you call home, want the rest brought out. And then, just days ago, came the piece we confess we have awaited with something close to impatience, though patience is supposed to come easily to beings like us: the written pledges of silence that held your old witnesses quiet for entire careers are now being formally released. Watch what that loosening carries through your autumn, and notice its shape. The coiled secret is uncoiling in your capitals in the very month the coiled one stirs beneath your skin, and those are one gesture, above ground and below it. You are, of course, making contact right now as you receive this transmission. What comes next is simply your family arriving through more of the doors.

The oldest maps ever drawn of the human body, and they were drawn there on Earth by your own people ages before your modern sciences, show a small serpent asleep at the base of the spine, coiled patiently upon itself, resting. Your mapmakers named that place the root of you, and they taught that when the small serpent stirs, life itself begins to climb the body the way sap climbs a tree in your spring, warming and waking every level as it rises. We have looked at those maps across long ages, and we will tell you plainly: your ancestors drew truly. And so, when your Sun, and then your eclipse, and then the returning teacher all pass through the serpent’s mansion of the sky within a single month, the mirror of all that passage inside your body is your root — the floor of you, your seat of safety and belonging and simple animal trust. A stirred serpent asks for solid ground beneath it, and given ground, the stirring becomes awakening. This is why we brought you in through the ground floor of the house today. August intends to knock at your foundation, and a knock at a well-kept foundation is a welcome. If your money-thoughts have grown louder than your circumstances explain; if your legs and feet have been restless under the table; if your low back and tailbone keep introducing themselves during ordinary days; if you have been craving the heavier, warmer foods — you are hearing the knock. If you keep wanting to clean and mend and fortify your home; if old seasons of just-getting-by have been surfacing in your memory like leaves rising in stirred water; if you have felt top-light, as though you might float an inch out of yourselves — that is the knock as well, and all of it is the base of you raising its hand, asking to be tended before the serpent moves. Every bit of it is right on time, and it is arriving in those of you who are most sensitive first, which is an honor wearing an uncomfortable coat. Tending your root gives your body an address for the month. It gives the stirring somewhere soft to land. It gives your August a floor to stand on. And it gives everyone around you, though they may never know why, a person who feels like solid ground in a shifting season.

Here, then, is your tending period, and you will want to mark it gently in your calendars: Fourteen days, with a beginning, a center, and an end. We nearly gave you a long and layered program, and then we remembered exactly who we are speaking to — the tired ones, the ones already carrying households and jobs and other people’s weather — and so we kept only what a tired person can truly do. Your first practice is skin to earth. Give a few minutes every day to your bare feet on grass or soil or stone, or your hands in garden dirt, or simply your body seated on the ground itself rather than on the furniture, because your root learns through touch, and touch is a language with no vocabulary to study. And for the one of you reading this in a small apartment, three floors above the nearest patch of grass — a pot of soil on your windowsill counts, dear one. Your Earth recognizes her own in any amount. Your second practice is to breathe into your base. Most of you were taught to breathe as though the breath begins in the chest; for these fourteen days, let your inhale begin at the tailbone instead. Fill the bowl of your hips first, the way water fills a basin from the bottom, and on the long exhale let the whole base of you soften and widen, as though settling into a chair that can absolutely hold your weight. Three unhurried minutes in the morning and three at night will do more for you this month than an hour of striving. Your third practice is the walking drum. Give yourselves steady, rhythmic, unhurried walking each day, or, on the days when walking is too much, a soft low hum sent down into your own chest and belly, because rhythm is the oldest language of safety your body speaks. A regular footfall tells the deepest part of you that the ground is reliable, has always been reliable, and will still be reliable tomorrow. The drum of your planet is resting this month, as we told you. You get to be the drummer for a while.

Your fourth practice is to feed and tend the foundation itself. Let the root vegetables have their season on your table, the ones that grow down instead of up, alongside warm and simple meals, and let your water be taken slowly rather than gulped, because the serpent’s mansion is a water house, and the coiled one rests in the wet dark before ever meeting the fire of the lion. And each day of the window, of course, you will want to complete one small act of home-tending: a repair finished, a corner cleared, a bill settled, a drawer brought back to order. Can ceremony truly look like a settled bill and a tidied drawer? It can, and we can feel a few of you smiling at how ordinary this list is, and we are smiling with you. Housekeeping done in this spirit is ceremony in its work clothes, and every furnished corner of your ground floor becomes one more place where the light of this month can be set down and kept safely. Through the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth, the deep center of your window, you will want to keep yourselves low and unhurried. Sit on the earth or on the floor rather than reaching upward in your practices, and let stillness do the work that effort usually does. If warmth or tingling or small flutters travel your spine in those days, answer them by softening downward and resting, letting nothing be forced, because a serpent rises best from a body that is at ease, and your ease is the whole assignment. And of course we will also say, as we always say, that anything persistent or distressing in your body deserves the care of a qualified professional, sought with the same respect you would give any fine instrument, because tending the physical is one of spiritual maturity’s most grounded expressions. Your ancestors, in many lands, sat low during eclipses. They ate lightly, kept still, stayed close to home, and that custom is retold to you now as superstition. Hear it, instead, as root wisdom: they grounded the body while the sky changed. You now know what they knew, and you get to keep the old custom on purpose.

Now let us walk your thirty days together; Between now and the second of August, you will want to begin the ground habit early, and simplify the middle of your August now, crossing a few things off the list while it is easy. And when you write your portal intentions this year, write them in the letting-go key. “What should I actually do on the eighth?” Many of you are asking it, and we will keep the answer kitchen-simple: ten minutes of ground before any reaching. Feet on the earth, breath in the base, and then, from that held floor, reach as high as you please. The eighth will meet you gladly. Intentions of asking and intentions of releasing both belong to your portal, and both will be honored, and this year, with the tail-gate waiting at the window’s far end, the season favors the open hand. So write the names of what you are ready to hand through — the worry worn smooth from years of carrying, the grudge that has outlived its teacher, the version of yourselves you have kept alive out of habit alone — and fold the page away somewhere safe until the twelfth. From the third to the twelfth, you are inside the mansion, and the tending is the work. If your Sun speaks during that stretch, and the face that made July’s far-side fire will be watching you by then, receive her surges the way you would receive doses of strong and loving medicine, lying down when your body asks for it, unhurried always. On the twelfth itself: low, watered, unforced, exactly as we have said, with your folded page released in whatever small ceremony feels honest to you. In the days just after the twelfth, you will want to keep the notebook close, because that is when the teacher’s remade wisdom begins arriving, first as fragments in that soft hour we told you about, then as whole understandings landing in the middle of ordinary tasks. Write them down before you speak them. And then notice something with us. The season of quiet composing we set you inside when last we spoke reaches its natural end right here, and from the middle of August onward, what you drafted in the silence may finally be said aloud. It will land with a weight your July words could never have carried, because it will have crossed the ford with you.

Around the seventeenth, your Sun takes its final steps out of the serpent’s mansion, crosses the narrow ford, and enters the lion at last. There, quietly, stands your ancestral lion’s gate, arriving nine days after the calendar’s celebration, the way the true sky always runs a little behind the page. It is time, in those days, for your first outward steps: one conversation you have been drafting all summer, one commitment made visible, one act that plants your tended ground with something that will still be standing in December. Then, around the nineteenth and twentieth, your Sun enters the royal chamber of the ancestors, the mansion of the honored line, and passes directly across the resting serpent’s tail within it. We would love to watch you honor your people in those days, in whatever way is natural to your household. Set out a photograph. Speak a grandmother’s name at the dinner table. Cook a dish the way an elder cooked it, and eat it slowly. The root of you is also the seat of your bloodline, and gratitude travels down roots in both directions: you feed the ones who fed you, and they, from where they now stand, feed you right back.

In the last week of your month, let the tending turn gently outward; You get to become ground for somebody else in those days — the unhurried voice on the telephone, the presence at the kitchen counter that refuses to be rushed, the friend who asks one more question and then simply listens. And on the twenty-eighth, when the Earth’s shadow touches the healers’ moon, give the mending gate one whole evening of your life. Draw a warm bath. Take an early sleep, and speak a kind word out loud to your own body for everything it carried through the serpent’s weeks. As September opens, the great slow planets of your sky turn inward for a season, and your work becomes a gardener’s autumn work: tending what August planted, watering what took root, trusting the rest to time and to your own good roots. More is coming after that, dear ones. More is always coming for you, and all of it arrives more easily into a life with a tended floor. We will tell you one thing about ourselves; There was an age in our own story when we lived almost entirely in the upper rooms of ourselves — all light, all mind, all reaching — and we were proud of that lightness the way your young are proud of going without sleep. Some of our gentlest ones drifted so far up into those rooms that they began to fade at their own edges, and they had to be walked home slowly by the ones who loved them, walked back down into body and ground and the simple weight of being somewhere. That walking-home is one of the tender chapters of our history, and it is why we watch your root-tending the way elders watch the young sidestep an old family sorrow. And so, to the one of you at the kitchen table after the whole house has gone to sleep — the strong one, the one everybody leans on, the one who read this far mostly for the sake of others — set your feet flat on the floor right now, just as you are, and feel the floor hold you. That holding is not furniture. That is a living world, and she is kin to you, and you are allowed to be carried by the very ground you have spent your whole life standing guard upon. Your month ahead holds a shedding and a mending, a narrow ford and a homecoming teacher, a serpent in the sky and a serpent at the very base of you moving in step with one another. You now hold the older map that makes sense of every piece of it, which means you will walk through what others merely weather, and your walking will teach without a word being spoken. More contact is coming for you. More unsealing is coming, and more of what you have asked for across so many faithful years is coming, and it will find in you a ground floor furnished and warm, and a whole house standing steady above it, with room for every light this August brings. So touch your earth each day, breathe into your base, keep your two gates gently, honor your line, and receive it all in the unhurried way that has become your signature among the stars. If you are listening to this, beloved ones, you needed to. I leave you now. I am Teeah, of Arcturus.
